When I read my newspaper this morning I learned a new word – “heteronormativity.” I am not sure what this word means but I think it refers to people who believe that being heterosexual is normal and, by doing so, are perpetuating heteronormativity.
To change this belief, the Australian Association for the Teaching of English want it to be compulsory for high school students to read LGBTIQ literature to try and destroy “heterosexual privilege.” What on Earth is “heterosexual privilege”?
I am heterosexual but have never felt privileged (or proud for that matter) of being heterosexual. To steal a line from the LGBTIQ lobby, “God made me this way.”
Was it only a couple of years ago it was stated that recognising homosexual and lesbian marriages would not send western society down a slippery slope. Perhaps they were right, it seems to me we are slithering down a greasy pole to the bottom.
